C220 CDI Coupe Electrical

Hi all. Hope you can help me a problem I’m having my W203 Coupe.

I have for time, had my battery/alternator warning permanantly on even when the car is off and the key is not even in. I think this either after I ran out of diesel and the car switched off while I was driving. or my cigar lighter socket blew which I replaced the same week. I took my car to my battery and voltage tested and it was that the voltages seem I have monitored voltages in mode and all seems fine, is 12.1v before starting. at 2000rpm and at idle and never voltages exceed 14.7v. I noticed any difference in driving and had no so just ignored the light and on thinking I will have it at properly sometime.

I had an MB technician look at it on Star quickly while in for something once and he cleared a few excess errors and reset all codes and me to come back if it came on and he’d look at it properly. advising at the time that it be something minor causing the like poor wiring or front SAM module. The light back within minutes of me and I carried on driving. as it wasn’t causing me any issues. until

Now I have noticed my headlights they keep dimming and to being bright. others think I am flashing at them. My work for about 20 seconds cut out. at the same time, I my AC does not work and nor does my beam. Thank god the radio works though. Took the car to a near me who I use for odd jobs like and oil changes etc. and he kept the car for the day it might be my alternator, hooked it up to his and carried out various other and gave it back to me at the end of the day saying it is too much voltage. as opposed to too which is more common. He it was beyond him and would be better to it to someone knowing a little about Mercs as he didnt to replace my

alternator and then find out it was due to else.

I believe the car is still running on its battery from 2002. It no sign of being bad, had it now twice and has passed the test flying colours! Now my local MB is closed for the weekend, I intend to it to him to have it tested on STAR.

My for you guys who are more experienced can an old battery lead to producing too power even though it fine and poses no starting even in cold wet weather

Is it worth putting on STAR? that tell me exactly the problem is? I.E battery, alternator, regulator or front sam? this be due to something simple a fuse, relay, diode or somewhere? Or should I have the taken out and benchtested.

Basically, to avoid spending unneccessarily. can I do at home to eliminate possibilities I bite the bullet and get it on STAR?

I you guys will accuse me of I know. I admit that. but I thats down to ‘if it broke, dont fix it!’ now its I’d really appreciate help. many thanks in
