Mercedes-Benz CLA 250 AT 4MATIC Special Series

Peter Barnwell tests and reviews the new 2014 CLA with specs, fuel and verdict.

Mercedes-Benz CLA 4

Mercedes is the most of its four cylinder car platform. Here in Australia, we have three different variants built on it: A-Class . and the CLA four door sedan with a fourth, the GLA compact SUV . on the way. Don’t be surprised to see one body shape on this down the track.

The CLA we’re testing arrived in two forms 1.6-litre 115kW petrol CLA200 front drive and the wicked, all-wheel (4matic) 265kW 2.0-litre AMG . This car boasts the most production 2.0-litre petrol in the world right now. The engine is a direct injection four banger with capable of achieving 5.7-litres/100km on fuel. A 0-100kmh sprint 8.5 seconds.

The CLA45AMG mirrors the spec of its A45AMG five door with a petrol 2.0-litre direct injection and twin turbo, variable valve and lift and a host of other boosting bits for an output of It clocks a 0-100kmh sprint in a 4.6 seconds and consumes as little as at a cost of $86,900.

A front wheel drive 100kW diesel CLA200CDi with a 2.0-litre 165kW petrol front drive Sport towards the middle of year.

The CLA reflects the A-Class hatchback up in terms of specification and engines/transmissions but the are higher. The CLA200 goes for but includes a generous amount of kit for the ask like seven speed clutch manumatic transmission, air bags, 18-inch alloys, headlights, LED tail lights, seats, Becker Map Pilot multi media interface large TFT screen, climate cruise and plenty more.

The 45 gets a driver’s package of features, 19-inch wheels, exhaust complete with bang in ‘Dynamic’ mode on privacy glass, two wing Recaro /AMG seats, Kardon audio, radar electric seat adjust and among its inventory.

All CLA’s the 45 have Benz BlueMotion to save fuel and emissions stop/start for one, low friction internals, optimised aerodynamics, energy recuperation and other A range of options and option are available across the CLA range model dependent.

Mercedes-Benz CLA 250 AT 4MATIC Special Series

We drove both CLA variants and away suitably impressed with the fire breathing 45. But we are not of the styling which looks in profile and over-styled at the back. headroom allows for kids But it has the world’s lowest aerodynamic for a production car rating a 0.23Cd benefits in fuel efficiency and running.

We reckon the hatch is better looking and costs into the bargain. Still, the CLS-esque lines of the CLA will to plenty of buyers as will the compared with other in the Benz range.

Both these cars beautiful to drive, predictable, responsive, comfortable. The 45 is stunningly and composed .loves the corners as as the straights and has the biggest stoppers seen on a car this size from a race track. Six 350mm discs. Like the select too.

Would we buy a No, we’d go for the A-Class hatch every time based on and styling.
