How to — Decat a W210 CDI

Hi all

I recently de-catted my w210 to try and a hissing on boost. It didnt, but Im with a nicer exhaust

The guide is posted on my side but I have included it below so it can be put in the DIY

I have recently been of removing the Catalytic converter on my E320 CDI W210. Primarily I it for the sound, but additionally, I have a on boost, and I had been advised by a Mercedes Tech, that can sometimes be due to a blocked pre-cat I had checked for boost leaks, of I found none). So I set to work the cat. Note, this is similar on most cars. is no worry about MOT testing as are only tested on smoke and not hydrocarbons and CO2, which is a cat affects.

Step 1 — Jack the car up, and it on axle stands:

I drove half onto the curb, and the other side up to get a bit more (naughty I know but meh)

Step 2 — Remove the on the centre clamps on the exhaust. isnt needed if you are just a pre-cat removal, but as I had to repair one of my tips I removed the whole anyway.

Step 3

To get to the Primary we need to remove the air box, remove the engine covers, remove the primary air filter and unit (it pulls off from the mounts that are bolted to the block.

Ignore my crappy wiring, One day I will tidy it up. the air filter cover, MAF connector and the air pipe that goes to the from the side:

Remove the air intake that goes from the area to the filter.

You will be presented with

Step 5

Also, unbolt the bolt that hold the cat This was quite rusted on I had to get out the impact wrench

There is a clamp on the underside of the where it joins the secondary cat I didnt take pictures of but all that is needed is to compress one of the clamp, and then press the out of the clamp with a flat screwdriver, The reverse is true to fit it.

With the cat removed, Its now time to the cat up into pieces and empty the I used a hammer and chisel to it up and shook it. I also rinsed out the to ensure there weren’t any floating around in there.

You can just about the see the cell in this picture:

Afterwards, a nice space:

Step 7 Re-install the cat!

Its basically the of the removal, ensure that all are done up, it may be beneficial to grease the slightly (but I didnt).

is the sound of mine after the

You also get a little bit of a turbo when you let off the accelerator. Can be heard at the end of the
