Which Mercedes-Benz E-Class the best company car?

We our favourite Mercedes-Benz E-Class

E300 BlueTec Hybrid cost-effective travel

Stick to for low cost, even with AMG

Mercedes-Benz’s E-Class and its forebears always represented sophisticated, motoring and the latest iteration is no

Perhaps not as good to drive as a BMW 5 or with the interior quality of A6, let alone the styling grace of XF, the E-Class nevertheless performs across the board, and that’s key to its

Dependable, reliable and with inherent Mercedes quality of like it will last

Although estate, coupe and body styles are available, concentrating on the popular four-door version here as that the choice of most company car

So which of the 15 E-Class saloons is the one we would go for?

Our heads

It might sound odd at first but we’re not going to choose the expensive E-Class.

With a value of £32,695, the E220 CDI SE decent value for money and at a 61.4mpg it’s not heavy on either. Its problem is there’s a hybrid alternative and even its P11D value is £7,130 it costs less to run.

Championing E-Class frugality is the BlueTec Hybrid which a claimed 68.9mpg. But more its 109g/km CO2 figure in SE specification, a BIK rate of 14 percent for 2014/15, to the E220 CDI’s 20 percent

This means for a 20 percent tax the E300 BlueTec Hybrid SE cost £1,115 per year the E220 CDI SE’s £1,308

Figures at a glance

P11D £39,825

CO2 emissions: 109g/km

combined mpg: 68.9mpg

BIK tax band: 14 percent

Monthly tax (20 rate, excluding options): £93

Our say…

Mercedes-Benz E 300 AT Special Series

As much as we would to recommend the fire-breathing E63 AMG muscle car as our the costs would be colossal – how £427 monthly bills you.

So, with our heart and head we’ve gone for something sporty yet not wallet wincingly Our choice is the E350 BlueTec AMG

Yes, it’s diesel but a silky V6 unit that’s more refined that the unit found in the other It’s also got a top speed of and will sprint from in just 6.6 seconds, so it’s enough for most. Stiffer AMG suspension settings ensure it tidily too.

Despite its to perform well, economy awful either, with a 47.9mpg and CO2 emissions of 154g/km.

In company car terms this a 26 percent BIK rating on the £41,025 value. For a 20 percent rate this means a £2,133 for 2014/15.
