Mercedes 300 SEL Transmission

Q. Dear Vince, My car is a Mercedes Benz 300 SEL fuel 4 speed automatic transmission 64,000 miles on the odometer, all in Hong Kong. It is equipped ABS brakes, P/S, and A/C.

It has arrived in my country Australia. I traveled about 150 miles in it it arrived. The only previous in Australia was for delivery to and collection service and government certification As you can see from the mileage traveled, the car has not had usage over its life. The is consistent with the mileage and is free. You may not be aware that in Kong traffic conditions it is rare for a car to get the chance to move top gear.

My query is whether the fact on one occasion it has slipped out of drive to for no apparent reason is indicative of any and if so defect. The shift occurred I was traveling at about 80 kilometres per in fourth gear. It went into gear while I was traveling, with very loss of speed, after I the shift lever into and then back into

My concern is that if I ignore the I may be causing damage by continuing to On another isolated occasion the car reluctant to change up to fourth and unusually went up to 3,000 rpm changing even though I was not any serious throttle.

Other what I have noted, the have changed flawlessly and both up and down. Around RPM on the tachometer represents around 68 mph in gear. Engagement of REVERSE takes about one or two seconds the lever is moved to that whereas engagement of DRIVE is Reverse engagement comes something of a jolt whereas is accompanied by a much less take up.

Before the car came into my but after it had arrived in Australia, and was checked by the importer before to me, the importer’s service record to me with it showed the transmission was to evaluate shift pattern and operation, and the transmission oil was drained and There is no transmission oil leak.

The query is whether it is reasonably to retrofit a cruise control to my 1986 300 SEL from standard The chassis number of the car is WDB126025-2A-288059. It is with the a 3.0 liter, injected motor and 4 speed auto ABS brakes, P/S, and A/C. I many of the later production run of series was equipped with CC.

A. Something like will be very hard to the cause. Since it only did it I would not be overly concerned it. Mercedes do tend to have a one hiccup now and again.

The delay REVERSE is normal and always a harder than DRIVE

I would still monitor the of the transmission for any abnormalities, but unless the becomes more consistent, is really not much we can do to troubleshoot it.

If you can a 1986 Mercedes Benz 126 chassis in a junk yard, you can the whole cruise control into your car. Ask if they will let you take it then grab everything, control switch, actuator, unit, cruise control and wiring harness.
