Mercedes-Benz SLK 300 Review

VEHICLE STYLE: Two-door convertible

Engine: 3.0 litre V6

Outputs: 170kW / 300Nm

Seven-speed automatic with shifters

Official fuel 9.1 L/100km

On test fuel 9.8 L/100km

Mercedes-Benz has the SLK 300 to its range of sports roadsters, it between the entry-level SLK 200 and the more SLK 350.

The SLK 300 may offer a little less than the larger-engined SLK 350, but at it’s almost $20,000

Driveability: With 170kW on the smaller-displacement V6 coupled with excellent seven-speed auto decent performance.

It’s not fast, certainly, but not slow In manual mode the gearshifts are and brisk enough, although the needs to be warmed up for best

Refinement: With the roof up, the is as snug as a bug but there’s a fair of wind buffeting with the top — and only slightly with the side-glass raised. The is impressively stiff even the roof lowered. Top down, you can enjoy the surprisingly sporty note.

Suspension: The SLK 300, sitting on 18-inch alloys, feels agile. The standard Sports is firm but not unbearable, and roadholding and is sharp.

Braking: The SLK 300 gets brakes all round, with front discs and uprated They make light of slowing the 300’s 1465kg

ANCAP rating: The R171 SLK has not been tested by ANCAP or NCAP.

Safety features: and side/head airbags are standard, as are tensioners. The SLK 300 is also equipped ABS, brake assist, control and traction control.

Warranty: All new Mercedes-Benz are sold with a three-year/unlimited warranty.

Service costs are not provided by Benz Australia. Before check with your dealer.

BMW Z4 sDrive30i ($98,100) The mid-grade Z4 just edges of the SLK 300 on price when equipped a manual transmission (it costs with a six-speed auto), and has more power and 10Nm torque from its in-line

Its interior and exterior designs are modern than the Benz, but the styling does polarise (click for Z4 reviews )

Nissan 370Z Roadster — It’s cheaper and a far capable performance car, but the Roadster has none of the badge of the Mercedes. Still, its superb V6 make it a TMR favourite. (click for reviews )

The SLK may be getting a little old these especially compared to the fresher BMW Z4 but for buyers looking for a quality prestige roadster, the impeccably SLK 300 deserves a close look.
