Mercedes 170v Staff Car

A bit of history………………..

Historically, the 170V was displayed by Mercedes Benz at the Berlin Motor Show and a production run from 1935 to As with most of early Benz models, the 170V was a display of luxury and class. of W15 body lines, the V170 on to becoming a best-selling car.

Its was unsurpassed as due to a WWII fuel many models were to run on gas produced by burning wood and in specially designed canisters on both ends. The resulting gas was to power the engine while the was diverted to the car’s interior, a welcomed solution in wintertime.

Production of the Mercedes-Benz 170 V (W 136 I series) was in May 1946. Even though 214 units were produced the end of that year, this was to raise hopes of a return to car production. Initially, however, it was not but pickups, panel vans and which came off the assembly because the Allied Control had prohibited the manufacture of passenger for the time being. It was not before 1947 that production of sedans was resumed which however, supplied almost to authorities.

What had happened at the time was Just twelve days Germany’s capitulation, the Untertürkheim – or what had been left of it – was re-opened on May 20, 1945.
