Good choice 😉

Installing the equipment you is actually pretty simple. dealer is probably getting by the two-chassis radio in the front. The in the dash is just a display/control The radio is a black box mounted out of That’s where the tuner and circuitry is located. The amplifier is in the behind the CD changer.

First, In an E38, and E46, don’t think about replacing the unit! Unless you have won Powerball, it’s not worth it. It be an improvement, but it will be a small one and not the time and effort. The actual electronics in the factory system are good. It’s just you can’t tell that the factory amp and speakers. Have dealer ignore everything forward of the back seat, and pull out the factory amp behind the CD Everything they will to connect the new system will be there.

You have four channels of from the radio, 6 pairs of wires from the front (2 woofers, 2 midranges, 2 tweeters), 4 of wires from the rear (2 2 tweeters), remote turn-on (white), power, and ground. The wire that should not be is the power wire, because it is too for the new amp you have. (The ground is of small too, but it is a short run so the is much less than on the wire. It won’t hurt to run a new but it’s not absolutely necessary.) running a new power wire is easy with the battery in the

Connecting the P840 then a simple matter of removing the BMW plugs from the harness, and them with appropriate to mate with the P840. In to facilitate easy replacement of the BMW in my own car (E34), I cut the BMW harness back 6 the factory connecors. Then, I Molex Mini-Fit I these connectors on the BMW harness, and mates on the part I cut off. way I can just plug it back when I’m ready to put the car to Then I made another set of with the Molex connectors on one end and on the other end to mate with the I used a 12-pin connector for the speaker wires, an 8-pin for the speakers, and a 10-pin connector for the from the radio, ground, and turn-on. You could probably put all on one connector, but I like to separate by function since I do a lot of experimenting.

The four radio signal should ultimately terminate in RCA and connect directly to the P840 The speaker leads will to the outputs of the respective a/d/s/ and the only new wiring will be the P840 speaker outputs to the of the a/d/s/ crossovers. This be standard speaker wire. I I could help you out with the code, but I’ve been to get my hands on E39 documentation so far.

The installation is pretty easy for any worth paying, There be a little futzing to get everything and solid, but no more than any car, so this should not anybody for a loop.

Do NOT let your run new wires up front for the signal the radio. You WILL get alternator There is NOTHING better twisted pair wiring for low-level signal in a noisy and that’s what BMW already Don’t fall for the marketing of expensive audio cables. is not home audio, the priorities are (Guess I better put my flame on now) Speaking of flames, pay for wire, fuse block, and for the power wiring though. a safety issue.

Subwoofers can take a lot of forms, on what you are after. In the DSP system, BMW a couple of 3 holes in the rear for a bandpass enclosure. You can also cut the center of the rear seat (where the ski-bag option for a 10 or 12 driver. This could be in an or infinite baffle. You can also get good results without anything if the subwoofer is powerful but it’s better to cut. The Ski bag is not really structurally significant, 5’s had a punch-out panel It’s basically left in for noise reduction. (I wouldn’t go with the cutting though!)
