“When everything is art, gotta take it in”…

On November 3,  those of us here in California experienced another of extended summer like As a result, those in attendance at were treated to a truly gathering of automobiles.

With a diverse cross-section of vehicles I really felt as if I were through an outdoor art gallery, row after row of 4 wheeled art and sculpture. And each new row, the experience that of entering a new and different within a museum, and discovering the within. And that was exactly the of experience that would before me that morning.

My stop of the morning, with courtesy of the rising sun, was these two examples of classic, WWII automotive art; in case a pair of 1930′s American bred hot rods…

The 5 coupe’s motor (as seen

at the featured lot, I encountered beautiful British Racing Jaguar, with its sculpted being accentuated by some reflections, courtesy of the early light.

There was no mistaking the origins of particular model due to its unique and the badge on the front hood reinforced the fact that before me was one of the very rare,1957 D-type XKSS roadsters.

the sunrise and reflections both their magic, the shapes and of the front hood and fenders beautifully displayed, and further the sculptural impact to the styling of car.

Even when from behind, the subtle of the body along with the almost pinched profile of the windows were further and accentuated by the early morning

Seeing this car in person to mind a magazine article I reading years ago about McQueen, in which the author his ownership of a 1957 Jaguar The article had mentioned several modifications that McQueen had to his car. The first was to repaint the car a British Racing Green. The was to add a locking door to the glove box in the dashboard ( the cars were without glove box doors). turned to one of his friends (Pin Von Dutch) for the fabrication of a locking box door, to correct the oversight by The third modification made was to the original interior kept but to have the upholstery  redone in leather, by none other the Southern California-based drag turned custom car upholsterer Nancy.  This particular car in front of me possessed all of the aforementioned so the question remained; could car be the ex-Steve McQueen Jaguar

( Postscript: After publishing post, I received an email the owner of the XKSS one week wanting to clarify the origins of his I learned that it is in fact an re-creation, and not an original model. The fiberglass body was created by Engineering, located in the U.K. and is to a Reynard Racing chassis, with Jaguar running Power is produced by a 4.2 liter motor, pumping out 300 horsepower, and is to the rear wheels via a Tremec 5 transmission. Seeing this car in puts the automotive re-creation in a whole new light).

My next would be to Porsche row, for my visit.

Located several rows to the East, and down the aisle the weekly Mercedes-Benz 190SL I discovered this trio of Mercedes-Benz vehicles. The first (as seen below), in red and black, out to be a pre-war 1936 Mercedes-Benz 230 Cabriolet B; a spectacular and beautifully car.

Sandwiched in-between the two Mercedes-Benz vehicles, was this colored, 1930s vintage roadster with red interior, appearing to have been

Parked immediately to the right was appeared to be a model 260D, series sedan, also a two toned paint finish, in with black fenders.

made the 260 D model unique was the D designation represented a diesel vehicle, and made this model the first diesel series produced passenger And according to the Mercedes-Benz records, 2000 of these vehicles built between 1936 and at which time their was stopped due to the war. All three of cars literally looked they had just rolled off of a showroom floor.

As I continued my through the “gallery”, a white, model Porsche 911 caught my so I walked over to get a closer ( see below). I had seen this car earlier that morning, and a comment made by a friend over on Porsche Row regarding its note. He stated that particular car sounded exactly how a 911 engine should sound; and clear with a smooth and without any extraneous noise or clatter. And anyone who has been or is familiar with Porsche will know the specific I’ve described.

I soon realized that was something familiar about car; I had seen it before, but not remember where. It was then the owner came over and himself, as I was photographing the motor. I learned that this car had previously owned by one of the two founding of the Porsche car club “RGruppe”, and being shown an article years ago in Excellence magazine this very car and two other it hit me. That was where I has seen car before, having read the article, and obviously it had made an

As a result of this cars ownership, this car was equipted many of the cool, go fast purposed, Porsche factory This car would become a blueprint used by many a owner who aspired to building own unique version of an RGruppe pre 1974 Porsche 911.

My last stop of the was to check out this stunning 2007 Porsche GT3RS. the crowds and cars having I was able to move around and the GT3RS without interference.

My shot of the morning and one of my favorite the November 3rd event. The sunlight brought this color to and showcased the collective styling unique to the GT3RS, re-stating the There is no substitute.

So should you yourself in need of some inspiration on a Saturday morning, take a stroll through the galley known locally as You won’t be disappointed…
