2001 SLK320 R170 MT engagement travels to the floor, brake pedal —

Two years ago I started having clutch and brake problems my 2001 SLK320 roadster at National driving events. The pedal engagement would closer and closer to the floor. I experienced a gradual mushy pedal. Both these would resolve themselves the car cooled off for about 30-40

My friend, an SCCA racer who a Mustang Cobra from a GT with parts he sourced on the told me to source out the following and once installed they solve my problems. How could I that up? Now this is not a how-to, as I am not a and my friend did all the work.

The only how-to I can provide, I was pushed under the car to take picture, is the location of the rubber hiding the manual transmission bleeder screw which can be on the bottom of the transmission on the passenger Gently peel the rubber away to expose the clutch screw.

For the record my 2001 SLK320 was built in July 2000. the R170 SLK roadster uses the fluid reservoir for both the and the manual transmission clutch. greatly simplifies changing and the brake/clutch fluid.

Brake — My only requirement was it must comply with the DOT 4 requirement. He picked the following I found on www.amazon.com

Four pints of Motul DOT 4 Racing Brake Fluid and I have two unopened pints

Brake Pads — My requirements included: having fit the factory calipers including the sensors and minimize brake So with all that in mind my decided that the following would work and I ordered from www.summitracing.com

Front: EPC EPC-DP41075R

Rear: EPC YellowStuff

Braided brake lines Apparently the SCCA highly these and they are required for the Cobra. I order the following www.autoanything.com

Goodridge High Performance Lines 34040

Speed — These are replacement one way valves allowing one person to the brakes and the clutch. I order the from www.speedbleeder.com

Front: 2 x Bleeder Products SB8125

and clutch: 3 x Speed Bleeder SB8125LL

After applying all parts, I am happy to report I drove to, participated in and drove from the 2011 MBCA Gemütlichkeit event in Mansfield, without any problems. The clutch engagement was consistently in the same You don’t really know how big a this is until it moves. The worked flawlessly and as I gained in their stopping ability I to delayed my braking application.

Now my friend really believes the of the entire brake and clutch of the old fluid with the higher brake fluid solved my clutch and brake problems.
