V-230 changing the rear absorber (with airsprings

Finally the original shocks pressure mechanism) gave way on our old TD Ambiente (type W638.2) see pic 1 + 2. Checked with MB for replacement, but that they only it with the original shock at 350 per piece – for just the part. original shocks are also to the airpressure system of the ENR in order to in- or part of the shock as quickly as the air itself.

As it was too costly I did some research to discover that an alternative is available from SACHS part number 290 043 at 80 euros This shock (gas mechanism) is made in Germany 3) and their office confirmed to me MB allows this part as a replacement for MB’s original – to be used when replacing air with coils. But his one is not connected to the air system and I want to keep my air

So what needed to be done was to the old shock from the air system and a ‘dead end’ in this I have searched everywhere to an air stopper for the black ENR air hose and it large pneumatic companies did not anything fitting this 5mm

After some thinking I the solution on the V-Klasse-Presser web site I bought a set of extension air tubing and 2 (pic 4). I removed the quick-fit connectors from the hoses and the quick-fit T-joint to create a in the circuit (pic 5). The 2 straight will not be used at all.

Now on the actual job: firstly the ENR switch on the dash for a couple of to disable the system. Then I a back wheel and had the car supported on a stand. Remove the large holding the shock in place. For I had to use lubricating oil, a hand torch and an extension pipe would fit over the ratchet/socket handle to give me more since these bolts extremely difficult to loosen. remove the old shock and leave it on the still connected to the air hose. the new shock and bolt in place tightly.

Now, take one of the loops 5) and keep it ready for use. To the air hose from the shock you use the quick-fit on the shock because it not release under pressure. cut the air hose connected to the old shock 1-2 cm from the shock with a knife (pic 6) and immediately the hose with your as air starts rushing out. the other hand hold the of the loop and insert the cut hose as as possible. Tie up this loop securely where it cannot be or snagged (pic 7 + 8). Replace the securely and start on the other in the same way. Remember to change both shocks on the axle. When all is done the car may way down on its back rubber (pic 7) but this will be when the engine is started and the ENR is depressed again for 3 secs. the compressor should start.

If all has been done carefully, no air be escaping from the system. after a few hours to see if the height has on either side of the back of the I am enjoying a smooth ride
