Smart ForTwo Electric Review – the EV future?

In a word – I luckily got to drive the upcoming Smart ForTwo yesterday. It was the time the car has been bought to the UK in right hand drive It was massive fun to drive!

When you of electric cars, you ultimately slow…..and limited range. The range is still an issue, but little Smart was by no means With a 0-60 time of seconds, you might think I’m a load of ball-ocks, but as soon as you put foot down on the accelerator you are back into the seat, and a futuristic electric hum you start The feeling of speed is due to the electric developing peak Torque the off, it has a single speed which puts out 75bhp and of Torque.

You can keep a check on current levels, and power drain the two pods on the dash. When cruising the battery drain at about 50% but when you push the 2 throttle even further the Smart comes alive and the kicks in again. Under acceleration mode the battery jumps to 100%, but you can easily away from 50mph and be speeding along with else at 70. I did push the Smart its claimed 78mph

top speed…..although at this speed, you be using 100% battery the whole time, not ideal!

As you can see I was having way too much fun as my “eco” was only at 33%!

The car regenerates amounts of charge through it must only recover a tiny of energy, but with a 90 mile under normal (ec0 driving it would be perfect for a commuter car. You could go to and from work in a city and have, enough charge to go out and do the in the evening.

The Smart comes with all the comforts of a normal car including Sat in the half hour or so I was out driving I to drain the battery 30% which wasn’t bad I but it made me feel guilty to bring it back in case it ran out before anyone else drive it! The recharge time empty is 7 hours from a mains socket, but a fast top up can be completed in around an hour.

Cost is set to be around £15,300, with the government grant of it brings the cost of this green machine down to a 10k; making the Smart Drive the cheapest all electric car on in the UK. If pricing turns out to be this I am sure you will see lots of Drive’s in towns and cities the country! One thing to bear in though is the alleged £52 a month lease, no current info has set out on how this will work it comes to reselling the car.
