ACEEE’s greenest car for 2014 is Smart Fortwo electric, Tesla Model S just average
Comments Add
Every year, the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE) looks into the soul of the American automobile market and figures out which vehicles are evil. This is how it comes up with a meanest vehicle rating. Wait, no, that’s not right. In reality, ACEEE rates vehicles using Environmental Protection Agency and California Air Resources Board fuel economy data and other specifications reported by automakers to find both the meanest and greenest vehicles of the year. In other words, the least and the most efficient. For 2014, the greenest vehicle is the Smart ForTwo Electric ...

Well, after much delay, the redesigned Smart electric drive – yes, it’s all lowercase letters to stay true to the “smart” way – is finally set to hit the streets without hitting the filling station.
With the influx of EVs in the marketplace, can the puny smart fortwo really stand up to the challenge? The fortwo has always been a niche car and adding in the hum of an electric motor in the place ...

Updated
Now that the 2011 models are starting to pile up, auto site Jalopnik is taking a run at naming the worst cars of the decade. No shortage of candidates, we might add. Also to no one’s particular surprise, Detroit’s Big 3 automakers produced the most of the worst, capturing all but two of the coveted spots with their numbskull entries. There’s a special nod to Chrysler. What really surprised us, however, was the inclusion of the Smart ForTwo — world’s fastest German golf cart — one of the most inventive cars in generations.
Here’s a capsule of Jalopnik’s reasoning ...

SMART CAR ‘FORTWO’ BY MERCEDES BENZ
By Steve Purdy
Detroit Bureau
The buzz at the North American (Detroit) International Auto Show in January included rumors that parent company Mercedes Benz might seriously consider bringing the cute little Smart Car to US shores. They were able to score a small piece of premium floor space back near Scion where they displayed the most popular Fortwo (referring to the car being “for two” people) model, along with a Forfour, a roadster, and the four-seat sport-utility version designed specifically for the US. While gauging reaction to the car the marketing and PR folks for Smart convinced us that it could be a winner here. ...

In New York, Parking Is Ever So Easy
Feeling Like a Rock Star (May 11, 2008)
John Marshall Mantel for The New York Times

The Smart Fortwo could do for Midtown gridlock what Mr. Bloomberg’s successful bans on smoking and trans fats did for New Yorkers’ health: after a few miles in this anemic two-seat tomato can, drivers will sprint to the subway and abandon the surface streets for good.
Like BMW ’s introduction of the Mini Cooper before it, the Mercedes-built Smart arrives as an appealing alternative for Americans weary of overstuffed cars ...
