The Wankelengined MercedesBenz C111 Texasbased GWATuning 2011…

The Wankel-engined Mercedes-Benz C111 — Texas-based GWA-Tuning 2011 version Back in the 1970s, the Wankel-engined Mercedes-Benz C111 experimental prototype stunned the world. Now, Texas-based GWA-Tuning has created its own version of the masterpiece. The new GWA Ciento Once (Spanish for ‘one hundred and eleven’) is not, however, powered by a Wankel engine but by a 408HP M120 Mercedes V12, mated to a six-speed gearbox. Nor is it the familiar orange colour of the original car, still owned by Mercedes and occasionally seen in action at such world-class events as the Goodwood Festival of Speed. The Ciento Once is painted in brilliant silver with black accents and matching interior. There ...

Author Topic: 1976 Mercedes-Benz C111-IID (Read 405 times) History and heritage. 1976 Mercedes-Benz C111-IID The Mercedes Sports Car That Might Have Been By Richard Heseltine, Contributor | Published Dec 31, 2010 Now isn#039;t a good time to have a crisis of confidence. Once we flail into the driver seat of the Mercedes-Benz C111 record car, a Mercedes technician gently lowers the gullwing door into place while we scan the 20-plus gauges on the instrument panel. We#039;re told categorically that the most important thing is not to get in anybody#039;s way. In a car that sits just 44 inches off the deck and with only one mirror, this will be no mean task, especially as we#039;ll be tilted ...

1970 Mercedes-Benz C 111 news, pictures, specifications, and information Mercedes-Benz developed the C111 for the 1969 Frankfurt International Motor Show. The car broke new ground in terms of both engineering and design. It was called an ‘experimental vehicle’ and a ‘laboratory on wheels’ with its gull-wing doors and a height of only 3 feet and 8 inches. The C111-II made its appearance at the 1970 Geneva Motor Show prompting interested parties to send blank checks to Stuttgart to secure one of these cars for themselves. The C111-II of 1970 was powered by a large four-rotor Wankel engine which developed 350 hp and gave the car a top speed of 186 mph. The C111-II accelerated ...

An introduction to Mercedes 500SEC Gullwings

Soon to follow: Franco Sbarro Styling-Garage might have been the first, but as with all things that are succesful they soon weren’t the only ones. At the 1983 Geneva Motorshow Franco Sbarro introduced the 500SEC based Sbarro Shahin 1000. There were some differences between the cars made by Styling-Garage and Sbarro, mainly when it comes to construction of the doors and the amount of plastic involved. Sbarro’s favorite material was glassfibre so the doors and many other parts were made from this material. The Sbarro car was also a bit more extreme when it came to styling since Sbarro had redesigned the front end of the car, which also made it harder to recognize it as a Mercedes. ...

Car Lust Car LustMercedesBenz C111

Car Lust—Mercedes-Benz C111 Sorry for the lack of Car Lusts yesterday and today, folks—I was out yesterday spending time with my daughter, and have spent this morning digging out here at work. Not a good excuse, I realize, so let’s dispose with family and work and concentrate solely on what’s really important—old cars. Last week’s Audi Avus (a car that, I’m surprised to say, was roundly panned here) was all show and no go—a car notable for its styling, but with vaporware under its curvaceous skin. Today’s Car Lust wasn’t so much a show car as a series of concept cars. The distinction between show car and concept car is a fine but ...

Design Friday The 1969 MercedesBenz C111 Concept |

Design Friday. The 1969 Mercedes-Benz C111 Concept. Lately the Design Friday posts have focused on a specific designer, and not necessarily a specific piece of design work. Today I am going to change it up a bit and talk about something that is an amazing piece of design work, and lives in the world of priceless and rare. I have always been a car guy. Not a gear head but a car guy, as in I am all about the design and styling of the automobile and less about getting my hands dirty building a hot rod. That doesn’t mean that I don’t appreciate horse power, and the engineering that goes into the vehicle. It simply means that I am initially drawn to the styling and the appreciation of power ...

Blast from the past MercedesBenz C111

Blast from the past: Mercedes-Benz C111 Blast from the past: Mercedes-Benz C111 At the 1969 Frankfurt Motor Show Mercedes released a radical new concept to the world called the C111, a prototype that would go on to become a test-bed for the carmaker’s future engine technologies. Styled like a big sports coupe, the C111 featured gullwing doors and a bright orange paint-scheme internally known as ‘weissherbst.’ Many had hoped the C111 would be a replacement for the iconic 300SL, but sadly that was not to be. The coupe featured many new innovations such as the use of light fiberglass bodywork and the bonding of this to a steel frame. It also featured a very sleek design that gave it ...
