Mercedes Benz GLClass Review

Model Update This year brings to the Mercedes Benz GL some extra goodies that add to the already fine machine that it is. More power to the GL 350 CDI (an extra 30 kW) has been added to make this into a swift and frugal adventure wagon. There is also a brand new model boasting new V8 diesel power and twin-turbo technology. This one is called the Mercedes Benz 450 CDI – so make sure you check this one over, too. Throughout the state-of-the-art cabin, the GL experience is one of pure comfort and travelling pleasure. The thermotronic 4-zone climate control is wonderfully edifying on any of Australia’s harsh and hot trails. Let’s face it, even the school run has to be performed in sweltering ...

Mercedes V6 Turbodiesel Sets New Standard | News & Analysis…

Mercedes V-6 Turbodiesel Sets New Standard Special Coverage How many Americans have driven a state-of-the art diesel? Very few, we’ll bet. Most still operate on old perceptions: rough, noisy, smoky, smelly and slow. And if they’ve filled up a diesel at the self-serve pump, they remember smelly fuel on their hands. That is, unless they have traveled to Europe lately. There, legions of fast, quiet and soot-free modern turbodiesels are more popular than gas burners due to their higher fuel economy, invigorating performance and (until recently) lower fuel prices. An awful lot has changed since diesel’s bad old days in the U.S. The fuel in Europe, and now over here, is a lot less smelly ...

Autbloggreen Hearts 2009 MercedesBenz GL320 BlueTec Again Still…

Autobloggreen Hearts 2009 Mercedes-Benz GL320 BlueTec. Again. Still. Yesterday, we took Autobloggreen (ABG) to task for running a thinly-veiled pimpatorial for the new Mercedes-Benz GL320 BlueTec. Their post was disguised as a celebrity trend piece, supposedly informing eco-readers that Hollywood eco-warriors were exchanging their Priora for an equally PC Mercedes-Benz GL320 BlueTec diesel. We so busted them, from the manufacturer’s plates on the carefully-posed cheesecake shot’s whip, to the fact that ABG printed the entire MB press release verbatim. And now, surprise! They’re reviewing the Mercedes-Benz GL320 BlueTec. And do they like it? What do you think? But there is humor here, ...

Mercedes GLK250 BlueTEC 4MATIC Bringing Diesel Tech to a Midsize…

Article From: Automotive Design Production Gary S. Vasilash. Editor-in-Chief Posted on: 6/26/2013 Peter Lückert’s title is director, Diesel Powertrain Development. If Lückert worked at most automo-tive companies, that would be like carrying a card analogous to “Repairman, Maytag Corp.” But Lückert doesn’t work at most automotive companies. He works at Mercedes-Benz. And at Mercedes, they take diesel engines rather seriously. In recent times in the U.S.*, Mercedes has offered a variety of diesels. Staring in model year 2007, it began offering a V6 diesel (replacing the in-line configuration that it had long had on offer) with common-rail direct injection ...

2009 Mercedes Benz GL320 BlueTEC Review & Test Drive

2009 Mercedes Benz GL320 BlueTEC Review #038; Test Drive The award-winning seven-passenger GL-Class-the first full-size SUV from Mercedes-Benz-gets a timely new model for 2009.  Joining the fully equipped, 382hp GL550 model and the highly successful GL450, the fuel-sipping GL320 BlueTEC diesel features a new AdBlue exhaust treatment system that helps it meet the most stringent 50-state emissions limits. The GL320 BlueTec is changing consumers’ dated perceptions about today’s diesel engines-it gets surprisingly good performance, very quiet running, and extremely low exhaust emissions, in the process of delivering 20-30% better fuel economy. With an EPA highway fuel mileage rating of 23mpg/highway, ...

Mercedes diesels are alluring for power and mileage but have…

Save gasoline; drive a diesel. Diesels, after all, get 20% to 40% better mileage than similar-size gasoline engines. And they burn a fuel that takes less energy to refine. Diesels have a quirky personality, marvelous amounts of power and a grumbly voice that’s more assurance than annoyance. But just try to find one that you can afford. Volkswagen is out of the U.S. diesel market this year, save for its $60,000 Touareg diesel SUV and some leftover ’06 sedans. Chrysler discontinued the Jeep Liberty diesel last May. That leaves $45,000-and-up Mercedes-Benzes. Mercedes began selling diesel versions of two SUVs Oct. 16, timed with the requirement that most diesel fuel be ultralow-sulfur ...
