Ajax are targeting a loan move for Spurs winger Steven Bergwiin in January if Antonio Conte sees him as a surplus.

The 24-year-old has played just 13 minutes since Conte took over as Tottenham manager last month.

He is one of several Spurs players who have struggled with Conte’s arrival. He is along with Dele Alli, Tanguy Ndombele and Joe Rodon.

According to The Times, Birchwein may have received an offer to escape a nightmare at Spurs by Ajax.

The Holland international, who joined from PSV for a fee of £27m in January 2020. It is said to be on the radar of Dutch Premier League champions coach Erik ten Hag ahead of the start of the year.

He has never been a starter in Conte’s era, having featured on the bench in Premier League wins against Brentford and Norwich. 

Berkwein himself may also push for a transfer in January.

The Times makes the claim today, suggesting that the Dutch giants are waiting to see. If Bergwijn does end up being part of Antonio Conte’s plans. It comes just a week or so after reports from the Netherlands had already suggested Ajax were keeping a watch over Bergwijn.

Bergwijn only signed for Tottenham back in January of 2020. He was a £27m buy for then-manager, Jose Mourinho.
