Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca has confirmed that Raheem Sterling will not train with the club’s first-team and is not part of his plans as he prefers a different type of winger.
The Blues are willing to listen to offers for Sterling just two and a half years after he joined from Manchester City for £50m in 2022.
On Friday, Maresca informed the 29-year-old he was not part of the club’s plans for the season and was not in the squad that lost to Manchester City on Sunday or the side that takes on Servette on Thursday.
Sterling’s No. 7 shirt has also been handed over to new signing Pedro Neto from Wolves, after Neto wore the No. 19 shirt on his debut against Man City on Sunday.
Ahead of the City game, Sterling’s agent released a statement seeking clarity on the winger’s future. With Jamie Carragher calling the move “ridiculous”.
Sterling’s representatives held talks with Chelsea towards the end of last season and all signs led him to believe the player would stay this season. But it now appears the England winger may have already played his final game for the club.
Ahead of the first game of the Conference League playoffs at home against Sersette. Maresca said: “I’m not saying Raheem isn’t a good player, ยูฟ่าเบท but I prefer other types of wingers.”
